Greenville, NC–Voters in the North Carolina House district 24 will make a stand in the May 6th primary: will they reelect a veteran lawmaker and former majority whip or will they chose a convicted and habitual DWI offender–who spent over two months in jail–lost his law licence for a year–and, by some accounts, doesn’t even live in the district.
Rep. Jean Farmer-Butterfield (lawmaker) v. Attorney Mark Bibbs (lawbreaker)
Two years ago, Mark Bibbs ran against Republican Susan Martin and lost by a wide margin in a mostly Democratic district 8. Now, Bibbs apparently moved a few miles down the road into his law office in district 24–in an effort to run against and unseat Rep. Jean Farmer-Butterfield.
Never mind that the city of Wilson, NC says Bibbs’ law office isn’t up to code for residential use and set aside the fact that the city of Wilson has plans to take the matter to federal court over Bibbs outlandish claims that his Constitutional rights have been violated.
The undeniable fact remains that Bibbs has a criminal record a mile long and shouldn’t be elected dog catcher–let alone a Representative to the North Carolina House.
NC district 24 has a trusted leader in Jean Farmer-Butterfield. Not only has she continued to lead the way in eastern North Carolina, but she has held steadfast against the extreme Republican policies that have made North Carolina a laughingstock.
Farmer-Butterfield continues to fight for voter rights against the GOP suppression laws. She’s fought for teacher salaries, smaller classroom sizes and educational funding–all of which has been opposed by the tea party lead GOP.
During the same time Farmer-Butterfield has been fighting for the people of NC–Mark Bibbs has been fighting to stay out of prison and to regain his law licence–having had them taken away because of many DWI convictions and a resisting arrest charge.
The irony is that the same man who got behind the wheel of a car impaired is the same man who wants you to vote him into an elected office. Enough is enough.
Voters of district 24 will have a great opportunity to send a clear message that people like Bibbs have no place in North Carolina politics.
And, just so there is NO misunderstanding–below is the criminal record of Mark Bibbs–Democratic candidate for House District 24.
