In a few weeks the SEC of the North Carolina Democratic Party will elect a new Chair. So much drama has transpired it’s hard to keep track of it all.
But, for those SEC members still inclined to vote for Patsy Keever on Feb 7th—let’s take a look at all she’s done for the Party and what they’ll actually be condoning.
Supporting Patsy Keever is supporting her efforts to send a voter intimidation letter to 1.5 million North Carolina registered Democratic voters at a cost of $40,000 for the mailers and another $50,000 for the printing.
Keep in mind that she did this knowing that the NCDP funds were low. To date, the Hagan coordinated campaign as never reimbursed that money.
Meanwhile, that letter was sent out by the NCDP with the NCDP logo and had her name on it. That action alone caused complaints to be filed with the NC Board of Elections. Yes, there will be an investigation. (If not more than one) I don’t think the BOE will care too much that Patsy apologized for it.
You’ll also be supporting the comments Keever made to Janice Covington Allison—the first transgender to run for the office. Patsy called her a man. As 1VC of the NCDP that comment was inappropriate and disparaging. Patsy apologized for that too.
It would have been nice to see the leaders of Equality NC and the NC LGBT community admonish Keever for those comments. Instead, they talked on the phone and planned their spin—all of them hoping to land those coveted jobs once they get Keever elected.
I would go so far to say that I’d like to see the President of the Dem LGBT caucus and the head of Equality NC to step down and resign. In my opinion, Equality has put their nonprofit status in jeopardy by supporting Keever in the first place.
They have gone back now, somewhat recanting, saying those are personal endorsements. But, apparently they forgot to remind Keever of that because she’s out there saying these “groups” support her. She’s not saying “individuals” support her.
I’ guess she’ll end up apologizing for that one too, once Equality has their nonprofit status taken away.
How many more times will we here I’m sorry?
I call on Janice Covington Allison to file a complaint with the NCDP and have it go before the Council of Review. Keever is burning Goodwin House down.
And an “I’m sorry” doesn’t cut it.
This is real business and politics isn’t a game. By electing Patsy Keever to Chair we’re putting in jeopardy the election of every Democrat running in 2016: including Roy Cooper.
Make no mistake about it—voters are watching and waiting for us to do the right thing.
